Puppies!!!

I knew I could drag you in with that title.  But no worries, this post is a double whammy: outfit AND puppies!!!

Cardi: Dillard’s;  Shirt dress (worn as blouse): F21;  Skirt: vintage, Etsy;  Sandals: Shoe Polish;  Necklace: Claire’s;  Cinch Belt: vintage, Ebay

Occasion: Fun day off.  Went to the movies to see “Remember Me.”  Don’t even get me started on it.  I cried at the end.  That’s normal, but this time I was crying because I was mad.  Just go see it, so you can feel my pain too.

The skirt in this outfit is my “new” vintage skirt from Etsy.  Now that I’m wearing it, I’m concerned about how it looks on my body.  I don’t find it very flattering.  And my best girl Billie says the gold sandals don’t work, but they are really all that I have.  Thoughts?  Comments?  Suggestions?

Now, I would like to introduce you to our childrens.  First, there’s Molly.  She’s our youngest child.  Spunky, hyperactive, loudmouthed.  She’s legit, but she doesn’t know when to quit.  I love her.  She’s more fun than you can imagine and waaaaaayyy too cute for her own good.  Oh, and she thinks she’s a cat.

Molly is a Lemon Beagle.  We are typically mutt-lovers, but someone actually paid us to take her.  It was sort of a rescue.  They didn’t have the time to give her the attention she needed.  It didn’t take her long to figure out that she can pretty much get away with murder at our house.  Damn.  How did we let that happen?

Then we have “I’m too good for pictures” Sammie.  She’s not a fan of the camera.  Always looks away.  But what an awesome dog!  She’s our oldest (10 years), but she still looks like a puppy sometimes.  I just love her.  She was a rescue as well…from my own family.  Long story, but she’s been through the ringer and I’m so happy to have her in my life.

Aaaaaand, that’s all folks!

On those sandy beaches…

Welcome to the “Great Bathing Suit Hunt of 2010.”

This year, I want to purchase a new (or new to me) bathing suit.  I haven’t had a new one in a few years, and now that I’ve discovered my love of 1950s style, I would like that type of bathing suit.  You know, the one piece with boy short type bottoms.  I would prefer black with white polka dots (as seen here), although that design is mainly seen on new “retro” suits.

So here’s my main concern: Based on my New Year’s Resolution, am I allowed to buy a new bathing suit?  What if I find a vintage pattern and have one made?  And finally, how freakin’ adorable are all the ladies in these pictures?!?!?!

With love, Ev

P.S. If you or someone you know can make me a suit or find me a vintage one, I will pay you.  I would rather buy from someone I know than a complete stranger…kinda like buying a hotdog from a local joint instead of Sonic….eeer whatever…

Take 2

I’ll have you know, this outfit was actually worn twice this week.  See, the first time I wasn’t able to get a pic of the full ensemble because I was a little busy making sure this would happen:

That’s right!  I coach the Cottage Hill Christian Academy Scholars Bowl team and we won the district competition for the second year in a row!!!!  Way to go CHCA!

So, I was a bit busy that day.  Which brings me to tonight, in which I had the perfect opportunity to wear it again…only this time I forgot my camera and you are stuck with phone pics.  Don’t judge me.  Judge the outfit.

Photographer: THE adorable Elizabeth B.

Dress: vintage, thrifted;  Cardi: Target;  Belt: came with cardi, Target;  Boots: Steve Madden Intyce via Nordstrom

First of all, I look like a shorty in this pic because the 12-year-old that took the photo has the most gorgeous long legs ever.  Geez!  She’s gonna be a freakin’ model, I tell ya.

I love this dress.  I considered hemming it, but I’m kinda liking the old school longer look.  The fabric feels like a gauzy linen or something…I don’t really know fabrics, but that’s what I think when I see it.  I chose not to wear any jewelry other than the staple diamond studs, because the pattern is so pretty and the neckline has a really cute button at the top.  The dress actually zips up the front, but you can’t even tell.

So what do you think?  Would you wear this?

Date night bike ride

Cardi: Dillards;  Tuxedo shirt: vintage, thrifted;  Leggings: Target;  Belt: vintage, thrifted;  Flats: Gap; Fish necklace: vintage, thrifted

Ok, so don’t mix the following:  bicycles, beers, tight belts, and mexican food. You will be in pain!!!  The Hubs and I were both strugglin’ after this week’s date night, but it was totes worth it.

We decided that for this date night, we would ride our bikes to our new favorite mexican restaurant, La Cocina, which is right down the street from our house.  It was a very short ride.  And of course I wanted to look super chic while riding.  What do you think?  Did I pull it off?  (Sorry about the blurry picture.)

This tuxedo shirt was one of my finds at Back In Time last weekend.  Its obviously a men’s shirt, but I love how girly and chic it can become with a cardigan and leggings.  The belt is actually a skinny tie from the 80s.

Happy Saturday everyone!!!

Old Meets New

Cardi: Dillard’s;  Dress: Thrifted;  Belt: Thrifted;  Necklace: Ann Taylor Loft (old merch);  Knee Socks: Target;  Boots: Steven Madden Intyce via Nordstrom

Occassion: Running errands, going to see a movie

First of all, let me just point out that this cardigan is new merch from Dillard’s (the store that I have come to hate).  I know that my New Year’s Resolution forbids me to buy new clothes, but I had a gift card and was determined to use it.  Trust me, it was difficult.  I have spent hours upon hours in that place and finally bought a pair of dress sandals and a couple of cardigans.  I’m allowed to use a gift card and not break my resolution, right???  RIGHT?!?!

The dress and belt were two of my purchases this weekend on our fabulous trip to Pensacola.  I couldn’t wait to wear this dress!  Its actually a button down 1980s maxi skirt that I am wearing as a belted strapless dress with a cardi for modesty (I cover up my arms year round).  The belt is a 1980s skinny tie that I simply tied around my waist.  What a great way to mix old and new items to make a completely new look!  I’m loving this ensemble.  Absolutely loving it!

Now, time to go enjoy the new Percy Jackson movie all by myself on my lazy day off.  I’m really beginning to enjoy going to the movies alone.  Its very relaxing.

SMILES!!!

Back in Time

The Hubs (above) and I went to Pensacola, Florida with my friend Lauren (below) today.  Isn’t she gorgeous?  Yeah.  I think so too.

They joined me for a cake competition today.  It was my first…and it was awful.  My cake was horrible compared to the others.  And I’m not just being my own worst critic…the score sheets are certainly proof of that.

But its cool.  If you want to see it, check out my buttercakes blog.  Fair warning, I haven’t posted about the competition on that blog yet.  Lots to cover.  Loads!

We had to drop the cake off by 10am and couldn’t take it home until 4pm, so we had quite a bit of time to kill.  I mean, there were only 20 cakes, so its not like looking at those took forevs, know what I’m sayin?

We decided to go to the beautiful beach and snap a few shots before eating some yummy seafood.  I love these next two pics.  LOVE them.  I must frame them very soon.

We got crabs for lunch (hehe).  It was super yummy, if you don’t count the overpriced lunch menu and the super salty chips.

Bonus!!!  Crabs uses only 100% recycled toilet paper…

…and has excellent margaritas.

We still had 4 hours to kill after getting crabs (hehe), and I just HAPPENED to have the address to a certain vintage store that I HAPPENED to have googled and logged into my trusty crackberry.  Coincidence?

The store is called Back in Time.  This was my first ever vintage store visit in person (ebay and etsy don’t count, right?) and I was in HEAVEN!

I walked away with a long white tuxedo shirt (top left), a 1980s black skinny tie (middle left), a floral maxi skirt that will be worn as a dress (bottom middle), and a fantastic 1970s gold fish necklace.  *Props to Lauren for picking the necklace out for me!*  The floral dress (top right) is a recent addition bought from Gugu’s Etsy shop and the navy slip dress (bottom right) is from Tigerlily Vintage Clothing store on Ebay.  Both of those dresses are waiting to be hemmed, but I wanted to show them off for a hot minute.

Overall, I had a fabulous day, even though my cake was a shameful representation of Hansel and Gretel.  Oh well.  All that matters is that we all had fun!

Playing Dress-Up

Boyfriend Shirt: Dillard’s;  Belt: Came with a separate Target dress;  Skirt: Thrifted;  Pumps: Thrifted;  Necklace: Claire’s

Since I am casually dressed most days for work, and do not feel that my ensembles are worth blogging about, I’ve decided to play dress-up every now and then.  I will put outfits together that I would wear on certain occasions.

This outfit is going out attire at its most comfy!  I love the soft oversized feel of the boyfriend shirt and the contrast between it and my little lace mini skirt (aaahhhh!  I wish you could see the lace!).  I could only wear this skirt out for a night on the town because its very short and very tight…but super cute nonetheless!

Those pumps are a perfect example of thrifting gone AWESOME!  I found these babies at Goodwill for $2!  They are perfectly fine, but the heels were a bit worn.  I decided to fix that with some black electrical tape for the time being.  You can’t even tell.  It blends right in!

So what would you wear out on the town?
