Summer Dreams

Remember those Spring Wishes I had? I wanted flowly skirts, ruffly dresses and tops and a few pops of color to get me through the spring and summer. Well, I may not have exactly what was on my list, but I have done a bit of shopping over the last few months and feel prepared for the heat that has already taken over our lives.

Forever 21 Blazer // J Crew Chambray Dress // Mossimo Seaweed Wrap Dress // Forever 21 Tribal Skirt // Forever 21 Embroidered Roses Skirt // LOFT Distressed Snake Print Skirt // Forever 21 Denim Shorts // Francesca’s Sands of Time Tank // Payless Peeptoe Slings

There is one more dress. It is a beautiful mint green vintage design from Francesca’s, but sadly I cannot find it anywhere on the interwebs. Oh well.

What are your summer staples?

So Kendi

Shirt: Old Navy // Scarf: F21 // Belt: F21 // Skirt: Thrifted (The Limited) // Pumps: F21

Warning: The picture below is not me…just in case you can’t tell. That is Kendi. Mrs. Everyday, if you will. Without her blog, I wouldn’t be able to get dressed in the morning. I would just have to go to work naked, and nobody likes that. Trust me.

I didn’t get dressed this morning thinking, “What Would Kendi Wear?” Cause that would be weird. I did, however, don this ensemble and think to myself, “Kendi would totally wear this!” And then I had a little conversation with her in my head. I think it’s love, ya’ll.

Your thoughts, please? [Updated]

So my free glasses just came in and I’m not sure whether I should keep them or not. I actually really like how quirky they are and feel like they are right up my alley, but at the same time I feel like they may take my nerdy-ness to the extreme. I may even look like an idiot. Luckily, I can exchange without a hitch, should I feel the need. What do you think?

UPDATE:

Thanks for your comments, ladies. I’ve decided to exchange them for these:

If this pair doesn’t pull off the look I’m going for, then I can return them for a full refund. All in all, CoastalContacts.com has been a pleasure to work with.

{find them here}

I ordered these the other day. They were free because CoastalContacts.com was having a special free glasses day. What do you think? Too nerdy? Or sooooooo me?

P.S. Thanks to Dacuz for telling me about the free glasses offer!

Finally! [Updated]

UPDATE:

Dear La-Z-Boy,

I have added this little update to my blog post because a good friend brought it to my attention that perhaps something should be done on your end due to the fact that we had to wait 6 months for the CORRECT furniture order. Yes, we love it, but for the price we paid for custom-made furniture, your customers shouldn’t have to deal with incorrect orders, or wait a whopping 6 months when the original order was supposed to arrive in only 30 days. Your hard-working customers also should not learn about extra fees and taxes the day before a delivery is supposed to take place. I appreciate the fact that you allowed us to keep the incorrect furniture while we waited, but did not enjoy our salesperson telling me that I ordered it wrong, especially when I showed that person a picture showing exactly how I would like the chaise arranged. What can you do make this a better situation for all parties involved?

Sincerely,

The Davis’

Six months after originally ordering our living room furniture, it is finally here. They said it would take 30 days. At the 2-month mark, we got our stuff but it was wrong. It took another 4 months to get the right stuff (insert New Kids song here).

But I’m not complaining, because I’m a happy camper now. We love our new living room, and so does Sammie.

Sofa & Chair: La-Z-Boy // Rug, Coffee Table, Picture Frames, Lamps, Leaf Pillows, Baskets: IKEA // TV Stand: Target // Painting: ME!

I consider my decorating style to be “comfy contemporary.” I love clean, smooth lines and solid colors, but with comfy pillows, lots of blankets, and sentimental reminders all around. The living room is where we spend our time together and I wanted it to be perfect for us. I think we succeeded.

Mardi Gras

Cardigan: Target // Button-Up: Dillard’s // Jeggings: F21 // Flats: Target

Ladies and…ladies, this is my last 30×30 post. I know, I’m a quitter. I honestly have no shame and don’t care what anyone thinks, but I do feel the need to tell you why I quit. I quit because I learned my lesson. I have learned how to look at all pieces of my wardrobe with remixer eyes and I have learned that I need a lot more color in my style. So when I go shopping from now on, I’m going to try to steer clear of navy, black and gray and gravitate towards yellow, coral and whatever else might tickle my fancy.

Mardi Gras is here in full force on the gulf coast, so here are a couple of videos to show you how we do!

…and the aftermath…

Switzerland

Cardigan: F21 // Top: Talbot’s // Pencil Skirt: Francesca’s // Flats: Francesca’s

Yesterday turned out better than I expected! My day started with a sweet email from Booyah, in which she asked if I use magic to make my hair pretty. I assured her that no magic is involved, just a diffuser and a curling iron. She then  proceeded to tell me that she whips her hair back and forth…and that’s where my attention span ended.

After that email exchange, I arrived at work, where I was told that my internship proposal was approved and I can start recruiting! Anybody in college and want to teach summer science camps at the Exploreum? I will be your boss. But don’t worry, I’ll be an awesome boss. Part of your job description will be taking pictures of me everyday. You’re welcome.

I wore this outfit knowing that I would be leading a grasshopper dissection, but I refused to wear that damn button-up and pants outfit again. I didn’t like it. So what if I dressed too nice to play with dead animals?!? Also, I’ve realized I dress like Switzerland…completely neutral. I need to liven up my wardrobe a bit. Any suggestions?

Love Yourself

Cardigan: F21 // Tee: J. Crew // Pearls: F21 // Skinny Jeans: F21 // Flats: Francesca’s

I take a LOT of pride in what I wear. It hasn’t always been that way, but now that I do it makes me feel amazing when I know I’m wearing something I like. Its not even about what other people like or don’t like, but what I enjoy wearing and what makes me feel confident. On the contrary, when I wear something I’m not proud of, my attitude reflects it. The pictures above exude confidence. The picture below shows that this contest is just a numbers game. I would much rather not show it to you and pretend like it never happened, but it did happen and I must live with it. I’ll make up for it today. Pinky swear.

This reminds me of a discussion I had with Genevieve the other day over lunch. She noted that I think very highly of myself and that I am a very confident woman. I told her that if you don’t love yourself, no one else will. Its true, ladies. The Hubs always tells me that I could be 300 pounds and happy with myself. That is probably true. Yes, I have those icky days where nothing I wear feels right and I wish I could just stay in bed because I don’t feel pretty, but when push comes to shove, I make sure that I have a positive attitude towards myself. If I don’t like me, who will?

Fair Trade

Blouse: Zara // Pencil Skirt: Francesca’s // Pumps: F21

I’m 2/3 done with the 30×30, ya’ll! I’ve made it this far, but I must confess that this shirt was not originally in the plan. It has turned hot here in the deep south and I traded this lightweight plaid shirt for a flannel plaid shirt that I haven’t even worn yet. That’s fair, right? Totally fair. You know what’s not fair? Me going to Disney and Harry Potter World without you. We should all go! Leaving next weekend. Any takers?
