Let’s Try This Again

Dress: Purse Picasity (Local Shop)  //  Wrap Cardigan: Old Navy  //  Pumps: Pierre Dumas via Shoe Station

I recently rediscovered (and learned how to use) our tripod, which makes the whole “take pictures of my outfits” thing way easier. In the past, I would balance my poor Canon Rebel on top of my dresser on the far end of my bedroom, which created crooked, zoomed in, blurry pics. Already, this is much better quality! So I thought I’d try posting outfits again. What do you think? Do you even care? My goal is to document this pregnancy in a way that shows that you don’t have to buy maternity clothes to rock the bump. That’s all I’m sayin.’

Happy Wednesday!

P.S. Notice the bare legs in January? That’s Mobile, Alabama for ya. It’s January and I already need a tan. For serious.

Favorite Pins: The Midi Skirt

1. The Daybook  ::  2. ASOS  ::  3. The Glitter Guide  ::  4. A Beautiful Mess

As my belly continues to grow, I’m looking at Spring and Summer styles in a new light, asking myself, “How can I be a stylish pregnant woman without maternity clothes?” I found my answer in the midi skirt! This versatile skirt is flattering on any figure and will certainly boost the cuteness of the bump without giving me that frumpy, baggy look. Paired with the right sandals, this style is sure to be my best friend for months.

Do you have any fashion advice for the girl who refuses to shop in the maternity section?

New. Warm. Happy.

See the coat above? I’m going to Old Navy today to try it on and hopefully make the big purchase, because I’ve had the coat below for about 12 years…since my grandmother bought it for me in high school. The inner lining is shredded and the buttons keep popping off because, apparently, I’m not the same size I was in high school. Time for a new one! I plan to use it to it’s fullest in Seattle over Thanksgiving…and then for another 12 years. You can check out the awesome selection of Old Navy’s Wool-Blend Double-Breasted Coats here. They get great reviews. It looks like this bargain coat ($70) is well worth it and not lacking in the quality of a $150 coat. I sure hope that’s the case!

P.S. I’ve got a couple of product reviews coming up for all you fine ladies out there. One is a must have and the other…well, sucks. I also can’t wait to tell you about my new job once I get settled in. Happy Tuesday!

Fall Sparkle

While I see a ton of cute dresses and looks for the Summer-to-Fall transition, I don’t think I’ll be purchasing much in the way of clothing. I’ve noticed that my colorful Spring and Summer wardrobe has taken a turn back to basics lately. I’ve been wearing a lot of black, beige and white. I absolutely love the classics and the basics, but I’ve realized that I need more accessories in my life. So this Fall, I’m turning away from the dress rack and towards the colorful sparkle. These are what I have my eye on:

1. Delicate Gold Tone Necklace With Leaf And Coral Teardrop Stone

  • $30 – inpink.com
  • I’ve already bought this with the $40 InPink gift card I got in a recent giveaway. I love that it is extremely simple, but still has a little pop of color.
  • I’ll be looking for more jewelry like this at Francesca’s and the thrift store.

2. Floral Trimmed Scarf

  • $8.90 – forever21.com
  • Flashy scarves are definitely a must-have, since my favorite dresses are black and beige. Bring on the color!
  • Forever 21 is obviously the place to find these gems.

3. Essie Canyon Coral Nail Polish

  • $16 – liberty.co.uk
  • Ok, so this nail polish is a bit expensive. I’ll try to find a similar color in a cheaper brand, but isn’t it just the perfect shade of coral?

4. BDG UO Suede Pump

  • $50 – urbanoutfitters.com
  • MUST. HAVE. THESE. PUMPS. NOW!!! I’ve been wanting these forever, but they have been $60. They are $50 now. This may just be my one big Fall splurge!

5. Vintage Perforated Hip Belt

  • $105 – lpcollection.com
  • Don’t worry, I would never spend that much on a belt. Problem is, this is exactly the one I want!
  • I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled at the thrift store.

6. G by GUESS Multi Row Bangle Set, GOLD

  • $19 – gbyguess.com
  • I need more bling in my life these days. It really did work wonders when I wore an excess of sparkly bracelets yesterday. They were annoying and I absolutely had a hard time getting them untangled, but it was worth it for the extra boost of confidence.
  • Check out the photo of them here: http://yfrog.com/g03o8pj

And there you have it! How will you be amping up your style this Fall?

Makeover

Yesterday, I had a little DIY fun at home. I gave my dresser a makeover. I’ve had this dresser since the 3rd grade (or sometime around then) and it felt oddly grown-up of me to pry off the the little wooden bows on the side and give it a fresh color. But I’m very happy to bring something from my childhood to my adult life. It should be sticking around for many more years.

I remember when my mom bought this dresser. We didn’t have much growing up, but she did the best she could for us. She was so excited to be able to get me and my sister brand new daybeds and dressers. We were excited too, because these weren’t hand-me-downs. There were OURS. Our very own possessions to hold our other possessions. Glorious.

Now, with a fresh coat of green paint and some new copper knobs, this dresser can continue to hold my things for a very long time.

Comfortable

Comfortable. That is probably my favorite John Mayer song. It is also how I like to live my life (with the exception of 4-inch heels, which are sometimes a necessity). I want my world and my love to feel…comfortable.

When I walk into a room in my home, I need it to feel like a place where I can be myself. Where I can kick my shoes off and lounge and feel loved by my surroundings. I don’t need my furniture and accessories to be top-dollar and all the rage.

So this past weekend, when I was finally given the chance to change up our bedroom decor, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. Unfortunately, the white down comforter and white bed skirt I chose ended up making our bed look like it belonged in a hospital. My misfortune led to a drunken late-night rage, in which I was bound and determined to solve the problem first thing Sunday morning. And that’s exactly what I did.

It’s amazing what a a few yards of cheap burlap can do, especially when combined with a few Goodwill and Target pieces! Our walls were already brown, so I knew I wanted to brighten it up with a very light colored comforter. I stuck a piece of burlap under the mattress for a rough-cut bed skirt and added a piece to the top for some variation (I would eventually like to get a throw to take its place, since burlap is not at all comfy). We bought an old bookshelf from a friend and turned it into two bedside tables, which make my heart sing. Before this weekend, I didn’t have a table and The Hubs had his college trunk, covered with bumper stickers and such. The tables were a very welcome addition. I found the lamps at Goodwill Sunday morning, and purchased a couple of lamp shades and pillows at Target immediately after.

Finally, I very quickly painted the abstract art above the bed during my drunken late-night rage. I’m pretty sure Drew thought I was crazy, but whatevs. I like how they turned out, even though we giggle every time we look at them because our minds are in the gutter. Why don’t you tell me what you see in those paintings? They are, after all, abstract…

Summer Dreams

Remember those Spring Wishes I had? I wanted flowly skirts, ruffly dresses and tops and a few pops of color to get me through the spring and summer. Well, I may not have exactly what was on my list, but I have done a bit of shopping over the last few months and feel prepared for the heat that has already taken over our lives.

Forever 21 Blazer // J Crew Chambray Dress // Mossimo Seaweed Wrap Dress // Forever 21 Tribal Skirt // Forever 21 Embroidered Roses Skirt // LOFT Distressed Snake Print Skirt // Forever 21 Denim Shorts // Francesca’s Sands of Time Tank // Payless Peeptoe Slings

There is one more dress. It is a beautiful mint green vintage design from Francesca’s, but sadly I cannot find it anywhere on the interwebs. Oh well.

What are your summer staples?

So Kendi

Shirt: Old Navy // Scarf: F21 // Belt: F21 // Skirt: Thrifted (The Limited) // Pumps: F21

Warning: The picture below is not me…just in case you can’t tell. That is Kendi. Mrs. Everyday, if you will. Without her blog, I wouldn’t be able to get dressed in the morning. I would just have to go to work naked, and nobody likes that. Trust me.

I didn’t get dressed this morning thinking, “What Would Kendi Wear?” Cause that would be weird. I did, however, don this ensemble and think to myself, “Kendi would totally wear this!” And then I had a little conversation with her in my head. I think it’s love, ya’ll.

Your thoughts, please? [Updated]

So my free glasses just came in and I’m not sure whether I should keep them or not. I actually really like how quirky they are and feel like they are right up my alley, but at the same time I feel like they may take my nerdy-ness to the extreme. I may even look like an idiot. Luckily, I can exchange without a hitch, should I feel the need. What do you think?

UPDATE:

Thanks for your comments, ladies. I’ve decided to exchange them for these:

If this pair doesn’t pull off the look I’m going for, then I can return them for a full refund. All in all, CoastalContacts.com has been a pleasure to work with.
