So Kendi

Shirt: Old Navy // Scarf: F21 // Belt: F21 // Skirt: Thrifted (The Limited) // Pumps: F21

Warning: The picture below is not me…just in case you can’t tell. That is Kendi. Mrs. Everyday, if you will. Without her blog, I wouldn’t be able to get dressed in the morning. I would just have to go to work naked, and nobody likes that. Trust me.

I didn’t get dressed this morning thinking, “What Would Kendi Wear?” Cause that would be weird. I did, however, don this ensemble and think to myself, “Kendi would totally wear this!” And then I had a little conversation with her in my head. I think it’s love, ya’ll.

Guest Post: Vintage Crocheted Lace Bracelets

I’ve asked a few of my bestest blog friends to write guest posts for me while I’m enjoying our anniversary vacation in sunny Austin, Texas.  I know you will love them as much as I do.  This post is from Deanna (the crafty one) over at Recycled Lovelies.  Enjoy!

—–

Good Morning all, ‘the Nerd’ asked me to write a guest post and specifically asked for something crafty, hopefully this will be ‘crafty’ enough for you all.

I was totally blown away with how easy this is and how common it is to find this crocheted lace, but that’s not to say that you can’t use other material too. I think this would work with regular lace or even ribbon.

Here is what you need:

Vintage Crocheted Lace

Mod Podge & Paint Brush

Piece of Cardboard

Vintage Jewelry Findings

Jewelry pliers

Beads(optional)

1.      Take some crocheted lace and iron it so that all the kinks and wrinkles are out of it. Then cut the lace to the desired length.

2.      Lay the lace on the cardboard and using your paintbrush, cover the entire front with mod podge, turn over and repeat. Move the piece of lace off the spot where you mod podged onto a clean area on the cardboard. Continue to turn the lace over every so often so it doesn’t stick to the cardboard.

3.      After it has completely dried and your lace is stiff but moveable, take your findings and attach a clasp onto each side. I used a vintage 3 ring clasp.

4.      If desired you can add beads/faux pearls to the top. You will need to sew these on, as hot glue wouldn’t hold.

5.      You are finished! Clasp on your wrist and off you go!

I hope you enjoyed this simple and quick project! Enjoy!

Dreams. I have dreams.

Picture taken at The Vatican, Oct 2009

The title of this post is a line from Brandi Carlile’s new CD.  Have you heard it yet?  Its effing amazing.

But it is also so true for me.  I have had dozens of career choices in my life.  When I was a child I wanted to be a choreographer, dancer, singer, songwriter, director, producer, etc….

But would you believe I never changed my major once in college?  I changed my career goal plenty of times, but I entered school as a biology major and graduated with a biology degree.  I’m pretty damn proud of myself for that one.  But am I working in the biology field???  NOOOOOOOO!  Of course not.  I just wouldn’t be Evan Davis if I stuck to one thing for the rest of my life.  I’ve come to accept that I will probably never have just one single, lifelong career.

So what am I doing now?  I decorate cakes at a fantastic local bakery.  Its so yums.  But the wheels in my mind are turning again, and I see a whole other future laid out before me: photography.  I know.  I know.  How crazy can one person be?  Ummm….hi.  I can be all kinds of crazy.  For reals.

So I decided to try my hand at photography this past Sunday and see how I do.  Thankfully, two fabulous women allowed me to use them and exploit their pictures just for practice.  Wanna see???  I bet you wanna see.

First, we have Noelle.  Her pictures were very organic and natural.  Even her outfit fit in with the wilderness.

Then we have Emily, a.k.a. Old Lady Hayes.  Emily is freakin’ hardcore, and I wanted to capture her in an urban setting.  Yes, she’s chain-smoking in these pictures.  Told you she was hardcore.

So what do you think?  Am I any good at this picture taking thing?

Meet Noelle…

A few things you should know about my good friend Noelle:

1) She is my go-to girl for any Twilight/Rob Pattinson/Kristen Stewart movie news.  This is done via facebook.  It involves pictures.  I am forever grateful to her for that.

2) We met at her cousin’s wedding and have become great friends through facebook for the last year and a half.  Some people think that’s strange.  I think its awesome.

3) She has a blog. Its totes fantastic.  You should check it out.

4) I’m jealous of all of these amazing adventures she goes on.  In the last year she’s been to San Francisco, New York City, and on a cruise.  What?!?!?!

5) She got in her car and drove an hour to come see me for our first “date,” (lol) in which we went to the theater to see New Moon for the 4th time.  We counted 35 different plaid shirts in the movie.  I can’t make this up.

6) I will get in my car.  I will drive an hour.  I will visit her for the opening of “The Runaways,” starring Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett.  Cant.  Freakin.  Wait.

7) I love her style.  This casual outfit of hers is great, and looks so comfy.  P.S. I’m WAS totes jealous of those chucks, but I got a pair for my bday!!!

Sweater: TJMaxx; Navy Shirt: Victoria’s Secret; Black Tank Top: Old Navy; Skinnies: Charlotte Russe; Necklace: Forever21; Shoes: Shoe Station

I love this casual ensemble because this is typical of what I wear to work during the week.  Sometimes I dress up, like for my fantastical birthday celebration, but most of the time, I just need to be comfy cozy while decorating cakes.

Noelle is not a fashion blogger.  She is an INSPIRATIONAL blogger. I love every post of hers.  She is so positive and upbeat in so few words.  I dig her style.  I dig her personality.  I like her.  Can you tell?

Friend Style: Jessica

Please forgive me for the photo quality, but I absolutely LOVED what my friend Jessica was wearing last night!  Very “office chic!”  I especially love the different patterns and textures of the sweater and pants.  I would definitely wear this if I had to dress like a professional every day.  And the ruffles on her shoes are darling.  And what about that ring?!?!?!  I love rings.  I’m a ring whore.

Sweater and pants: Limited;  Top: Express;  Shoes: Charlotte Russe;  Ring: Dillards

I met Jessica last March.  We both played Kit Kat Girls in a local theatre’s production of Cabaret.  I love everybody I met during that entire experience, but only a few have really kept in touch.  Jessica is one of those.  She’s part of my “book club,” which is really just a group of us girls who constantly trade books.  They are usually my books…which is cool, but I’m starting to lost track of some of them…perhaps I should use library cards and charge late fees?  No?

This is the beginning of my Friend Style and Street Style posts.  I’m going to try to be brave and ask random strangers with fabulous style if I can take pictures of them and feature them on my blog.  I’m a little scared, but will try to get over that.  I’m good with people.  I can do this….but I may feature a few more friends first…you know, to get in the groove of things.
