Mardi Gras

Cardigan: Target // Button-Up: Dillard’s // Jeggings: F21 // Flats: Target

Ladies and…ladies, this is my last 30×30 post. I know, I’m a quitter. I honestly have no shame and don’t care what anyone thinks, but I do feel the need to tell you why I quit. I quit because I learned my lesson. I have learned how to look at all pieces of my wardrobe with remixer eyes and I have learned that I need a lot more color in my style. So when I go shopping from now on, I’m going to try to steer clear of navy, black and gray and gravitate towards yellow, coral and whatever else might tickle my fancy.

Mardi Gras is here in full force on the gulf coast, so here are a couple of videos to show you how we do!

…and the aftermath…

Switzerland

Cardigan: F21 // Top: Talbot’s // Pencil Skirt: Francesca’s // Flats: Francesca’s

Yesterday turned out better than I expected! My day started with a sweet email from Booyah, in which she asked if I use magic to make my hair pretty. I assured her that no magic is involved, just a diffuser and a curling iron. She thenĀ  proceeded to tell me that she whips her hair back and forth…and that’s where my attention span ended.

After that email exchange, I arrived at work, where I was told that my internship proposal was approved and I can start recruiting! Anybody in college and want to teach summer science camps at the Exploreum? I will be your boss. But don’t worry, I’ll be an awesome boss. Part of your job description will be taking pictures of me everyday. You’re welcome.

I wore this outfit knowing that I would be leading a grasshopper dissection, but I refused to wear that damn button-up and pants outfit again. I didn’t like it. So what if I dressed too nice to play with dead animals?!? Also, I’ve realized I dress like Switzerland…completely neutral. I need to liven up my wardrobe a bit. Any suggestions?

Love Yourself

Cardigan: F21 // Tee: J. Crew // Pearls: F21 // Skinny Jeans: F21 // Flats: Francesca’s

I take a LOT of pride in what I wear. It hasn’t always been that way, but now that I do it makes me feel amazing when I know I’m wearing something I like. Its not even about what other people like or don’t like, but what I enjoy wearing and what makes me feel confident. On the contrary, when I wear something I’m not proud of, my attitude reflects it. The pictures above exude confidence. The picture below shows that this contest is just a numbers game. I would much rather not show it to you and pretend like it never happened, but it did happen and I must live with it. I’ll make up for it today. Pinky swear.

This reminds me of a discussion I had with Genevieve the other day over lunch. She noted that I think very highly of myself and that I am a very confident woman. I told her that if you don’t love yourself, no one else will. Its true, ladies. The Hubs always tells me that I could be 300 pounds and happy with myself. That is probably true. Yes, I have those icky days where nothing I wear feels right and I wish I could just stay in bed because I don’t feel pretty, but when push comes to shove, I make sure that I have a positive attitude towards myself. If I don’t like me, who will?

Fair Trade

Blouse: Zara // Pencil Skirt: Francesca’s // Pumps: F21

I’m 2/3 done with the 30×30, ya’ll! I’ve made it this far, but I must confess that this shirt was not originally in the plan. It has turned hot here in the deep south and I traded this lightweight plaid shirt for a flannel plaid shirt that I haven’t even worn yet. That’s fair, right? Totally fair. You know what’s not fair? Me going to Disney and Harry Potter World without you. We should all go! Leaving next weekend. Any takers?

Over the Weekend

Sweater: F21 // Skinny Jeans: F21 // Flats: Target

Cardigan: F21 // Dress: Francesca’s // Pumps: Target

Saturday was interesting. The day started off with a fun-filled couple of hours at work (insert sarcasm here), then I ended up at a sports bar with Genevieve and had a couple of high gravity beers, then home to get ready for a wedding, which we skipped out on during communion to go to a college basketball game. Just keepin’ it classy, Alabama.

Cardigan: Ross // Blouse: Old Navy // Jeggings: F21 // Flip-flops: Old Navy

More high gravity beers with Genevieve and The Morrisons. It was a happy happy Sunday.

Sockster

Sweater: Target // Button-up: Old Navy // Skinny Cords: Old Navy // Flats: Francesca’s // Necklace: LOFT

The second I saw my friend Jerel at work yesterday, I had to say, “I look like I’m dressed for a sock hop!” He replied with, “No, you look more like a hipster.” Really? Let’s just mesh those together into one solidified word, mmmkay? I looked like a “sockster.” I’m cool with that.

In other news, yesterday was the beginning of frizzy hair season on the gulf coast. Juuuuust perfect. After 40 minutes of straightening my hair, I had to put it right back up. Lovely.

And that’s all I have for you today – a stupid mashup of words and a comment about my hair. Its almost like a Glee episode.

I get it!

Cardigan: Target // Dress: Target // Pearls: F21 // Pumps: F21

I totally get it now. I know what this 30×30 Challenge is doing for me. I find myself looking at the rest of my closet, longing to use items I haven’t used in a while. I’m dreaming up new remixes and outfits. Its amazing, ya’ll. I might also be online window shopping at Francesa’s, Anthropologie and Gap, but what happens in my office stays in my office. Wait…

And yes, that ISĀ  a giant robotic locust behind me! If you live in or near Mobile, come see the bugs. We like bugs at the Exploreum. Just come and see.

The Sickness

This is how I felt (and looked) approximately 12 hours before The Sickness set in:

Dress: Francesca’s // Military Jacket: Thrifted // Flats: Francesca’s

And this is how I felt today, approximately 24 hours after the worst of The Sickness:

Military Jacket: Thrifted // Top: Old Navy // Skirt: Francesca’s // Flats: Francesca’s

Obviously, not all there. But at least I was functioning and moving around a little bit. I expect tomorrow to be 100% better. I hope…

P.S. The Sickness was a 24 hour stomach virus, which seems to be making the rounds. Watch out!

A different kind of 30.

My beautiful big sister turned 30 on Saturday, so The Hubs and I made the 3 hour trek north to enjoy a lovely evening with the family. The night may have involved lobster tails, wine, a bit of stumbling and 30 presents for my sister’s 30th birthday. All in all, I’d say her birthday was a success!

Here is a pic of me, Algie (grandmother) and Ryan (sister):

Military Jacket: Thrifted // Tee: J. Crew // Pearls: F21 // Skinny Jeans: F21 // Brown Flats (not shown): Target

There are so many expressions in this photo, and so many ways to look at it…

Meet Mary Alexis! My newest niece and most recent love of my life. She’s 5 1/2 months and absolutely adorable.

Let’s not even talk about what I wore on Sunday. It wasn’t in the 30×30 and I don’t even care. I consider it a pajama day. I’m allowed those once in a while, right? I’m just proud of myself for wearing a bra…

Flight Attendant

Cardigan: F21 // Button-Up: Work // Skirt: Francesca’s // Tights: Target // Pumps: F21

The Hubs says I looked like a flight attendant. I say I looked professional. Potato, potato. (I’ve just realized that phrase doesn’t translate when typed. But you get it.) I love outfits like this. I love looking professional, like I’m doing something important, which I totally am. This particular day I was at an outreach event at a college, which focused on teaching students about smart energy consumption and how to be more green. Since I work at a science center, we wanted to be involved, but we don’t really have any exhibits that focus on green energy at the moment. So we decided to take our EKG reader and show students that electricity is not just around us, but IN us as well! We took their EKG’s and showed how electricity moves through your heart. Pretty cool, huh? I love my job.

The only thing I regret about this particular day is not getting my pumps in the photo. Cause they are smokin’ hot. I feel so sexy when I wear them. So here they are:

{find them here}

Friday was a completely different animal. Holy wow, it was crazy! I was busy preparing for another outreach event, where we anticipate making 1000 bags of slime at a kids table at our annual chili cook-off. I’m scared and excited all at the same time. The best part is that the kids aren’t just getting away with a bag of slime. Oh, no! We’re going to introduce them to the science of polymers! (Good lord, I’m a geek…or should I say nerd?)
