Guest Post: Car Conversations as imagined by Booyah

I’ve asked a few of my bestest blog friends to write guest posts for me while I’m enjoying our anniversary vacation in sunny Austin, Texas.  I know you will love them as much as I do.  This post is from Booyah (the funny one) over at Pantsless in Seattle.  Enjoy!

P.S. Her real guest post has been postponed until the weekend, because she came up with the-most-amazing-spur-of-the-moment-extra-post-of-awesomeness that simply must be force fed to you immediately.

Car Conversations as imagined by Booyah

Starring: The Nerd

Special guest: The Hubs

Conversation 1:

The Nerd: I love it when we drive to Texas.

The Hubs: I love Twilight.

The Nerd: So you said 2 minutes ago. And 4 minutes before that. And then 10 minutes before that. Honestly, you’ve talked about nothing else since we left.

The Hubs: TEAM JACOB ALL THE WAY.

Conversation 2:

The Nerd: Hey The Hubs?

The Hubs: Yes, The Nerd?

The Nerd: I really love your singing and everything but I’m a little tired of listening to you butcher New Kids On The Block.

The Hubs: I’m sure I have no idea what you are talking about.

The Hubs: singing loudly PLEASE DON’T GO GIIIIIIRRRRRLLLLL!!!

Conversation 3:

The Hubs: You know who is great?

The Nerd: Booyah.

The Hubs: Yes.

The Nerd: She adds fulfillment to our otherwise empty lives.

The Hubs: Your life might be empty. I have Twilight.

The Nerd: Yeah, let’s see Edward keep you warm at night.

The Hubs: How many times do I have to explain to you I’m TEAM JACOB. And that guy is like a FURNACE.

The Nerd: Your face is a furnace.

Conversation 4:

The Nerd: I miss Booyah.

The Hubs: Me too.

Together: Wistful sighs

Fin.

Deep in the Heart of Texas

Time for our road trip to Austin!  While I’m gone, celebrating three years with the funniest man in the world, I’ve asked a few of my blog buddies to write guest posts for me.  I hope you enjoy and fall in love with these ladies just like I have.  Adios!

Want to hear all about my trip while I’m gone?  I’ll be blowing up the twittersphere.  You should follow me!

Floral is my new favorite color.

Dress: Tucker for Target; Cardi: Target; Flats: Old Navy; Fish Necklace: Vintage

Occasion: A show at the theatre.  Alone.  Yes, I got all dolled up and took pictures of myself for a date with…myself.  Its cool.  One year ago I would have cried over this particular circumstance, but today I enjoy the fact that The Hubs and I enjoy different things.  He wants to watch football.  I want to go to the theatre.  So we do it.  Separately.  It works for us…like Jon & Kate…but without the eight children and the divorce and whatnot.

Pant Clips: The solution to your jeans/boots problem.

Thanks to an almost year-old post from Adored Austin (which I saw when it was new but completely forgot about), I was schooled on the awesomeness of pant clips.

What are pant clips, you ask?  Well, they are little suspenders for your jeans.  They keep even the skinniest of jeans from bunching up around your knees when you wear boots.  Lovely, right?  RIGHT!

*Photo courtesy of Bits and Bobbins and Lucky Magazine.

I’ve searched for them and even found a pair for $2.50 online, but the shipping was $10 for some reason, so I just decided to make my own.  I used an awesome photo tutorial from Bits and Bobbins.

I can’t wait to try these out!

Peanut Butter Pie

Um…yes.  This pie was heaven.  Remember how I was obsessing over it for about a week?  Well, I not only promised to make it, but I promised to show you pictures and give you a recipe.

I also promised twitter that it would be organic, but that didn’t happen.

First, start with a pie crust.  You can use a premade one, like this amazingly delicious and healthy organic whole wheat pie crust from Virginia’s Health Foods…or you can use Joy the Baker’s recipe.  Whichever you prefer.

You want to pre-bake that pie crust, so that it is nice and crunchy and flaky before you fill it with the non-bakeables.  (Yeah, I made that word up.)  Poke holes in the crust and bake for about 10 minutes.  Let cool.

Now for the filling.  You need 3 things to fill your pie: vanilla pudding (homemade or from a box), peanut butter crumbles (homemade), and whipped cream (if this isn’t homemade, I will punch you in the face).

I tried to make a homemade vanilla pudding, using all organic ingredients, but it never thickened up.  Luckily, I had a box of the powdered stuff in the pantry.  Prepare your pudding and set in the fridge.

For the peanut butter crumbles, mix about 2/3 cup of crunchy peanut butter with at least a cup of powdered sugar.  Mash together until it looks like these crumbles, adding more powdered sugar when necessary.

Now for your whipped cream.  You need 2/3 cup cold heavy whipping cream and about 3 heaping tablespoons of powdered sugar.  Put both ingredients in a mixer and beat with the whip attachment until light and fluffy.  So easy and so gosh darn yummy.

Now all you have to do is put it all together.  Here is the order, from the bottom up: pie crust, pb crumbles, vanilla pudding, pb crumbles, whipped cream, pb crumbles.

BAM!  Its done.  Now get a fork and eat it all by yourself on the couch while watching a Harry Potter marathon.  I’m not judging.

Balloons are for losers.

Callaway Gardens.  This is where we spent our honeymoon.  Although, this delightful looking beach isn’t open after Labor Day, so we never got to enjoy it.  We did, however, take our bikes on our honeymoon with us and just enjoyed a blissful few days roaming around.  It was glorious.  Oh, and did I mention getting drunk with a bunch of paramedics on our honeymoon as well?  Yeah.  That was fun.  At least, I think it was fun…..

A few weekends ago, on Labor Day weekend, Callaway Gardens was having a hot air balloon festival.  The Hubs really wanted to go, because one of his dreams was to ride in a hot air balloon.  Since I work hard to make his dreams come true (like getting him an elephant ride at the circus…this did happen), we planned to go ride in big huge balloons.

But when we got there, this was what we saw:

Balloons on the ground!  Deflated and oh so sad looking.  The Hubs was slightly heartbroken.  But we did what any other hip young couple would do: looked at old hot rods, grabbed lunch and a beer, and headed to a football game.*

*Disclaimer: Attending this football game was my attempt at being a “normal” southern girl.  I think it went ok…except for the fact that they don’t sell beer at college football games.  That hurt my feelings.

Vote for me on Red Chair Confessions!

Remember that time I actually won something?  I hope you remember, because it was just last week…and I left you the link.  Well, now I am in a run-off with some other fine ladies for a Talbot’s shopping spree!  If I win, I will use this $250 shopping spree money to purchase a job interview outfit.  I believe that is important.  Yes.  If a real job is anywhere in my future, I need a signature ensemble to get me through the interview.

So please vote for me at Talbot’s blog, Red Chair Confessions.  All you have to do is click the “like” button next to my entry.  But beware, there is another Nerd on there.  Don’t confuse us, please…although she IS a cutie…and I have a soft spot for self-proclaimed Nerds.  Obvi.

You have one full week.  Tell your friends.  Tell them that mama needs a brand new bag.  Or something like that.

Thanks in advance to my fellow Nerds for the support!

Outfit Planning

I love Polyvore.  Have you ever heard of it?  Its a super cool website where you can put together outfits, plan your home interior, and just be a designer for a little while.  I just finished planning all of my outfits for our upcoming Austin/San Antonio trip, as well as a plan for what we want to buy for our new living room when we stop at Ikea in Houston on the way home.  Wanna see what I came up with???

We are taking this trip at the end of the month for our anniversary.  We take an anniversary trip every year.  Last year, on our 2nd anniversary we went to Italy.  It was amazing.  This year, Austin and San Antonio are calling our names.  As as added bonus, my super awesome cousin, Morgon, and his wife, Lauren will be joining us for dinner and a Daniel Tosh show one night.  Oh yeah!  Third row, baby!

Ok, on to the planned attire…

We chose to drive, which means 10 hours in the car each way.  You KNOW I plan on being both comfy and chic, and restaurant ready for whenever we arrive at our destination that evening.  That’s why I chose my black skinnies and flip flops, my grey asymmetrical oversized tee, and a white cardi.  Can’t forget the F21 necklace!

Our first full day is a special one, because its the day I plan on meeting up with one of my favorite style bloggers, Indiana, of Adored Austin.  I obviously have to  look adorable for this!  Who knows…maybe I’ll end up on her blog.  For this lovely meeting, I’m going to wear a floral dress from Target, my green military jacket, and my beloved Old Navy cognac flats.  Because the dress is so busy, I’m going to keep the accessories to a minimum, meaning simple earrings only.

Our second full day, we will be roaming around during the day and going out on the town at night, so I have two outfits planned for that day.  First, I’m going to wear my teal ruffle dress with my military jacket, mustard yellow scarf, and cognac flats.

But when we go out, I’ll be stylin’ in this Mossimo dress and cardigan, and strappy black cork wedges.

Our final full day will be filled with so much awesomeness, I can’t even stand it!  This is the day that we get to go to San Antonio to visit my old coworker and friend, Kara…who works at Sea World…who’s getting us in…for free…and introducing us to a lot of amazing critters behind the scenes.  I’M GOING TO HUG A FREAKIN’ BABY PENGUIN, YA’LL!!!  Then we are taking Kara out to dinner, at a place of her choosing, cause she lives there and will know the best place to go.  I chose an outfit that is comfy and cute and can be worn at night to a restaurant: long gray tank, F21 necklace, skinnies, boots.

Finally, we will make the long trek home, with a little shopping at Ikea in between.  I’m going to wear my black leggings, plaid tunic, and black flip flops for this travel day…and I’ll probably have a cardigan handy as well.  You know how it gets cold in the car.

Oh yeah!  Can’t wait for Ikea!  I have so many things on our list, like a coffee table, an end table, an area rug, a table lamp and floor lamp, some pillows for our new couch, and baskets for our built-in bookshelves to hide some of that clutter.  This trip…is going to be epic.  The end.

RIP NYR

I regret to inform you that my new year’s resolution is dead.  I killed it.  And by “killed it” I obviously mean “stabbed it in the imaginary heart with my nonexistent will power.”  I know, I know.  I’ve made it this far, right?  I mean, its the middle of September and I just gave in!?!?!

Yes.  This is true.  I know it was wrong.  Hell, I’ve never even made a NYR before and I really was planning on going all the way with this.  While I am definitely ashamed, I must admit that the entire thing was flawed from the beginning.  Let me explain.

See, once I set this resolution into motion, I began to panic.  I went to thrift stores almost every day.  I was constantly shopping and buying up things that would look “just okay” because they were the best I could get.  So even though my NYR was all about reusing and being green and not consuming nearly as much as people do these days, it backfired on me, because I actually bought more clothes than I normally would have if they were new.  I bought just to buy because I knew it wouldn’t be there the next time I went, even if it was “just okay.”  So now, fellow Nerds, I have a closet full of crap that I don’t even wear or like.  I was simply compelled to buy them out of sheer panic.

So I decided to buy myself something pretty.  Something I can wear on a date, or to a job interview, without having to borrow from my friends or spend money on useless items out of panic.  I bought a dress and a pair of wedges.  I deserved them.  And I feel pretty.

I have learned a lot these past nine months, about thrifting and buying used clothing.  I won’t stop shopping that way, but I am going to try to remember not to buy clothes just because I feel like I have to.  I’m going to be patient and only buy what is necessary.  Thanks for all of your encouragement this year.  I’m very sorry if I’ve let you down.  Would you like to borrow my shiny new dress???
