Meet The Mom

You’ve met The Hubs…now meet The Mom.

I apologize for the photo quality, but look at those leeeeggggsss!!!!  Holy WOW!  Now, let’s put this into perspective.  This pic is of my mom in the 9th grade, probably 1962 or so.  I would say she is probably the exact same size she was in this photo.  No joke.  I can’t make that up.  She is still only 5 feet tall and less than 100 pounds.  Seriously.

I love my mother!  We fight like sisters, but we are best friends deep down…it just takes a while to realize that sometimes.  We are just so alike, its scary!

Now here is a more recent photo, taken at our family Thanksgiving party (yes, party, not dinner…a regular dinner would be so boooorrring) this year:

Oh look, you get to meet The Sister as well!  Her name is Ryan.  She is about 6 weeks preggers with her 3rd little one right now.  Isn’t she gorgeous?  The Mom is in the middle, The Hubs is in the back, and over on the right you’ve got me, The Nerd of course.

Hope you like this little piece of my family.  Its a huge family.  Introductions will take a while.

This resolution thing…

…is KILLING ME! Its not that I want to buy anything right now (which I don’t) and its certainly not because I have money to spend (which I don’t).  Its just the IDEA.  I’m sad.  Sad I tell ya.  I’m beginning to think that our thrift stores are inadequate here in Mobile, Alabama.  I meeeaaaaaan.  Seriously.

Help me get through this.

Tell me its going to be ok.

Please.

Friday nights…

Sometime in December I started Friday Night Date Night with The Hubs.  This is mandatory.  No phones.  No computers.  No facebook.  Nada.  Just the two of us for dinner and a movie.

I started date night because every night we are in separate rooms doing separate things.  We need just that one night where our focus is only on each other and our marriage.  It has been really fantastic.

We usually eat a frozen pizza for dinner and rent a movie, but tonight we are going to the theater to see a movie I have been anxiously awaiting since this past summer when I read the book:

The book was amazing and I can’t wait to see the adaptation on film.  I’m so freakin’ excited!!!!

Now…what should I wear???

Tuesday is my monday

Trench: Zara (bought in Florence, Italy);  Scarf: F21;  Belt: F21;  Cardi: Target;  Button-down: Thrifted;  Skinnies: F21;  Boots: Nordstrom;  Necklace: Michael’s

I work at a bakery as a cake decorator, and I am lucky enough to have Mondays off.  I do have to work Saturdays, but having that one week day to get things done is a real treat.  So Tuesday is my real Monday, workwise.

Great news!  The boots are broken in! My little pinky toes still hurt a bit, but that will pass with time.

Have a great Monday Tuesday everyone!!!

Random conversations with The Hubs

In which I brag of my skillz as a taekwondo white belt via email:

Me: “I’ve got a big bruise forming on my right hand knuckles from all the punching last night.  It doesn’t hurt, but it is a constant reminder of how freakin’ awesome I am…and strong, of course. ;)

The Hubs:  “Yes, you are awesome.  You bruise when you hit pads.”

In which we discuss the new nerd blog in our bedroom closet:

The Hubs:  “Yeah, I read all your blogs.”

Me:  “Really?  I love you.  You’re so sweet.”

The Hubs:  “No, I’m just making sure you’re not talking about me.”

Birthday Wish List

I know this is really lame of me, but wouldn’t you rather gift someone with something they would LOVE?!?!?!?!  So here goes…

1. Risky business sunglasses, in black

2. Red chucks, size 7.5 pleeeease

3. Books-A-Million gift card OR the first couple of books in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series

4. One large (really, I mean big…or multiple smaller ones) artist canvas with paint and brushes…so I can try to paint something like these:

5. Assorted basic tees, because they are essential.

Aaaaand that is all.

Beauty is pain.

Aren’t those boots beautiful?  They were my splurge at the end of 2009, right before my New Year’s Resolution.  Ahhhhh….if only they weren’t so damn PAINFUL!  Holy wow!  I was strugglin’ today.  Struuuuuglin.’  I’ve never had real leather boots before, but I’m assuming the pain will go away once they are broken in…right?  Please say yes!

There are many little elements I love about this outfit.

Like the different buttons on the sweater…

…and the warm cognac color of the boots…

…and the little golden owl pendant on my necklace…

Darling.  Just darling.  As for my hair, this was my first time styling it this way and I absolutely LOVE it!  I learned the technique from Emily over at Cupcakes and Cashmere.  Fashion meets food?!?!?!  Just my style!

Outfit:

Cardigan: F21;  Sweater: F21;  Leggings: Target;  Boots: Steve Madden ‘Intyce’ via Nordstrom;  Owl pendant: Michael’s;  Pearls: F21

Friend Style: Jessica

Please forgive me for the photo quality, but I absolutely LOVED what my friend Jessica was wearing last night!  Very “office chic!”  I especially love the different patterns and textures of the sweater and pants.  I would definitely wear this if I had to dress like a professional every day.  And the ruffles on her shoes are darling.  And what about that ring?!?!?!  I love rings.  I’m a ring whore.

Sweater and pants: Limited;  Top: Express;  Shoes: Charlotte Russe;  Ring: Dillards

I met Jessica last March.  We both played Kit Kat Girls in a local theatre’s production of Cabaret.  I love everybody I met during that entire experience, but only a few have really kept in touch.  Jessica is one of those.  She’s part of my “book club,” which is really just a group of us girls who constantly trade books.  They are usually my books…which is cool, but I’m starting to lost track of some of them…perhaps I should use library cards and charge late fees?  No?

This is the beginning of my Friend Style and Street Style posts.  I’m going to try to be brave and ask random strangers with fabulous style if I can take pictures of them and feature them on my blog.  I’m a little scared, but will try to get over that.  I’m good with people.  I can do this….but I may feature a few more friends first…you know, to get in the groove of things.

My fave outfit of the moment

I’m the kind of person that will wear something I love over and over again until I’m sick of it.  Can’t help it.  This particular outfit is my ensemble of the moment. I love how retro it looks.  Very 1970s.

Shades: Target; Belt: F21; Cardigan: Target; Button-up: Thrifted; Skinnies: F21; Boots: Soda (from Shoe Station)

See that scarf?  I’m totes gonna have a tutorial on how to make them yourself…they are so easy you will freak!
