Sweet Girl
I believe I’ve introduced you to Molly before. She’s our youngest – only four and a half lively years old. The old lady in the house is Sammie, our 11-yr-old mutt who doesn’t have a care in the world (unless there is thunder, of course). But today’s post is all about Molly.
Molly was one year old when we got her. You could say we rescued her. We were paid by a lovely family to take her off of their hands. They just didn’t have time for her. She wasn’t house trained and she wasn’t even spayed. That’s where the payment comes in. I refused to take her unless they paid us to have her spayed, so it all worked out. We all instantly fell in love, and Molly became a vital member of our family.
You can’t help but love this beagle. She is seriously too cute for her own good. Its impossible to stay mad at her for eating poop or tearing something up because she’s so damn easy on the eyes and the heart. And when she looks you straight in the eyes and howls at you? Geez! Kills me every time.
Unfortunately, Molly is in so much pain right now that she’s gone from “crazy adolescent” to “crippled old lady” in a matter of days. The Molly we once knew has taken on a completely different personality. It took over a week and two vet visits to learn that she has Intervertebral Disc Disease, which is essentially like arthritis of the spine. It is pretty progressed for a girl her age, but can be controlled with plenty of rest and anti-inflammatory meds.
I know it might seem silly to some people, but these girls are our children. They are essential to this family. They are our precious babies (well, technically Sammie is Drew’s step-kid since she came into the marriage with me, but I digress). It breaks my heart and makes us so sad to see Molly the way that she is. I just wanted to get that out there and explain to some friends and family what is going on. I would also like to thank Dr. Justin Mims for treating Molly with such care and devotion.

We have a beagle and she’s our baby too. Your girl Molly is soooooo cute! I’m sorry to hear about her disc disease. It’s so heartbreaking to see them sick and hurt. I hope she’s feeling better soon!

She’s really cute!
I hope that the meds and rest help her to be happy cos she takes really cute pics!! I’m surprised though that the vet hasn’t mentioned that poop eating is almost always a vitamin or nutrient deficiency. It can usually be stopped by finding out what your dog food may be lacking and mixing in a food that has it.

that is so sad, I do hope that she starts feeling better and is good for many more years. We had to give our little girl away when we found out we were coming to Mozambique. It was so hard. Dogs become our family so quickly.
